Hi and thanks for visiting 40WEST Photography! My name is Jeff Vittetoe and I am a landscape photographer based in Nashville, TN.

   At the age of 11, my father took me westbound on interstate I-40 from Knoxville, TN on a "Chevy Chase" style vacation to the American Southwest. I was awestruck by the landscapes we saw on that trip. The last stop before heading home was Zion National Park. We drove through the park after midnight to get into the nearby city of Springdale, Utah to stay the night. All I could see that night was the full moon reflecting off of the massive sandstone cliffs that are Zion National Park. I can still remember the feeling I had that next morning as we made our way through the park. Even as a little 11 year old boy, I was moved by what I saw, and can remember the sense of calm and peace I experienced in that beautiful place.

   Fast forward 30 some years. After spending 20 years suffering through the ups and downs of the music business in Los Angeles, I channeled my creative juices into photography and moved back to Tennessee in 2001 and made Nashville home. I returned to Zion in 2007 armed with my first "real" camera. Upon return to this beautiful place, I experienced the same calm and peace that I had originally experienced as a boy and now seek to somehow capture that with my photography. I return to the Southwest for my photo excursions several times a year now, seeking out new and awe inspiring locations.

    Though no piece of film or digital image will ever replace the feeling you get when you are actually in the presence of these places, I hope my images will, at the very least, spark something inside you and make you want to seek out these places and witness this beautiful country for yourself. On here you will often find multiple images of the same location. I believe that certain scenes speak to people differently depending on the mood or weather conditions on any given day. What you and I perceive as a "wall worthy" piece of art may be two completely different things, so I like to offer multiple moods/variations of a scene whenever possible.
